Dick Clark dies of massive heart attack

TV producer and longtime host of New Year’s Rock’n Dick Clark died Wednesday of a massive heart attack TMZ reported. He was 82. It was reported he died of the heart attack at Los Angeles St. John’s Hospital after undergoing an outpatient procedure. He was host of the New Year’s show from 1972 until 2004 when he had a stroke. He appeared only occasionally on the event after that.

Broncs sweep Scorpions, head west

The University of Texas Pan American Broncs swept the University of Texas Brownsville-Texas Southmost College Scorpions, 9-2, Wednesday at Edinburg Stadium. It was the third win over the Scorpions for the 21-7 Broncs. The Broncs are 18-1 at home. Both Roger Bernal and Angel Ibanez continued their hitting streaks. Julio Cesar Perez saved himself a possible death sentence Tuesday when he pleaded guilty to the murder of his Rio Hondo school teacher wife. Perez, 41, a San Benito Pentecostal minister, on Friday will learn his sentence for arranging the killing of Sonia E. Perez, in a plea bargaining situation by pleading guilty to a lesser charge. James Martin “Joe” Valle was sentenced to one year and one day on Monday in U.S. District Court in Brownsville in connection with his part in the former District Judge Abel Limas racketeering scandal. Valle, a Harlingen attorney, also was fined $1,000 by U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen.
