THE REAL DEAL By JERRY DEAL UPDATE: The Rally Around the WhiteWings Parade and Autograph Signing Party was a huge success as kids of all ages got to meet one-on-one with the members of the 2012 baseball club. If you missed it you missed a good time. Starting at Fifth and Jackson streets, the long line that included not only the players, WhiteWings General Mnnager Doug Robinson, Field Manager Eddie Dennis, the famous mascot, Wildwing and some politicos (most noticable was District Attorney candidate Luis Saenz aboard his 1928 Ford). The usual police escort led the parade, followed by a Harlingen fire truck and Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Prepejchal. Also in one of the lead vehicles was Wildwing, dancing to music aboard a pickup bed. Truckloads of players followed along with vehicles driven by representatives of sponsors Bert Ogden and Boggus Motors. The parade ended at the little park at A and Jacksoon streets, where the autograph session took place. But, not before the players were welcomed by the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. Scores of youngsters had baseballs that were signed by the team members. Also some prizes were handed out. REPORT PRIOR TO EVENT Your writer here [...]

THE REAL DEAL By JERRY DEAL Now that the frivolous complaints by former Harlingen City Commissioner Kori Marra against City Attorney Roxann Cotroneo have been rejected — again — let’s have a ruling on the real issue, Marra’s conviction by a jury for failure to file a conflict of interest affadivit. For that, she has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500. It is a Class A misdemeanor. Also, as a result of the conviction, she was booted from her District 3 city commission position. In her latest and failed effort, an angry Marra had filed an amendedcomplaint against Cotroneo with the State Bar of Texas. “No Way.” said the State Bar, in dismissing the complaint, just as it had done previously when Marra filed the original complaint. Interesting that the actions by Marra, who once complained about the city’s legal costs involving a city involved lawsuit has cost the city more than $70,000. No surprise, that she declined to comment on her latest loss. This writer, once a supporter of Marra (until she sold out to those who opposed and humiliated her in a previous shot at the city commission post) believes that she is making [...]

THE REAL DEAL By JERRY DEAL Just a couple of messages to readers. No. 1, I am up to my ears in baseball business right now and am not intentionally ignoring Myleadernews. But preparing for a Kid’s Day exhibition game Thursday morning, a Saturday morning Rally Around the WhiteWings downtown Harlingen parade (at 11 a.m.) plus working on the upcoming season, which begins in one week (May 23) has kept much of my attntion with my position with the WhiteWings. No 2. True, in checking back, that statement very likely is libelous that Joe Rubio speaks of. (I know you can’t prove it), so dear readers be more cautious with your accusing statements. Although, I do not reveal my anonymous readers, law enforcement has a way of tracking them down. They do not need any help from me
