UT Brownsville has big enrollment increase
The University of Texas-Brownsville has one of the largest increases in enrollment of Texas schools of higher education this fall term over the same period last year, according to preliminay figures.
Figures released by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board state that UTB enrollment is up by 1,684 students from the fall of 2010.
However, now detached Texas Southmost College had a slight decrease in enrollment (31).
UT Pan American had an increase of 797, with a total oenrollment this fall of 19,041.
Texas State Technical College-Harlingen had a 293 student increase, with an enrollment of 6,072.
South Texas College also had a large increase, 2,587 more, bringing its latest total to 30,558.
Statewide, the board stated there were in excess of 62,000 more students attending schools of higher learning this fall than in 2010.
However, this is lower than the past two years. In the past three years, enrollment has increased by 268,000, according to the enrollment data. Total enrollment in schools of higher learning is 1.5 million.
UT Austin remains the largest university in the state, with 51,145 enrolled, but that is actually 50 less students than in 2010.
The data also states that Hispanic enrollment is up by 4.5 percent this fall.

I believe that UTB will move forward faster and better now that TSC has been disattached.
