Publisher hits lottery, not really, another scam exposed
THE REAL DEAL
By JERRY DEAL
I’m rich,I’m rich, according to two recently received e-mails, each telling me I won the lottery in a foreign land that I did not even know about.
I think between the two, I “won” about $5 million.
OK, back to reality. I’m sure that many of you out there get those same messages, or from others “asking” for help to get millions of dollars out of their country into the U.S, for a great portion of the total amount.
These phony pitches are easy to detect. But, what I am leading up to is an operation, using a good law enforcement name that is fooling thousands of Texans.
It is also one that really pisses me off, but apparently it works (barely) within the law.
Have you ever been approached by the Texas Troopers Association? Seems like a good cause, right?
NOT!
This is strictly a telemarketing operation that only gives small payments to the causes they claim (to stay within the law), mainly widows and others affected by injury or death to troopers.
I have been aware of this operation for years and have exposed it previously.
Its headquarters is in San Antonio, where it operates a so-called Highway Patrol Museum.
But, the fact is this is just the “boiler room” operation calling throughout the state seeking donations, which much will end up in their own pockets.
In fact, those near the so-called museum say no one goes there to see what it has to offer, further displaying what a scam it is.
This is not unlike a situation when a few years in San Antonio that a telemarketing firm was pushing for the Disabled American Veterans(DAV).
Its pitch was to have a party and performance by a well-known entertainer for the disaabled veterans.
This firm collected near $1 million, paying its telemmarketing people on the phones soliciting for the veterans about 15 percent of the take.
But, the DAV only received about $15,000, and entertainment at a donated hall cost about another $20,000
As it turned out, about 50 disabled veterans and families attended.
This was a real scam and I want you to know this officers group is also a scam.
Stay away from it.

I get calls from those “trooper” people about two or three times a year. I gave to them once, then became suspicious the next time I was called and asked the caller if he was actually a state DPS trooper. He tried to stall, but I persisted and finally he admitted he was not. I checked further and found out they had absolutely no connection to law enforcement officers.
Jerry, I have quiet a bit of friends that live in Treasure Hills and towards the race track. In fact, I had coffee with one them, last week. I ask Mr. Jones, if they had ever seen their commissioner riding around that part of the precinct, or if they knew the commissioner. He thought it was still Ton Hushen.
He tells, me nothing has change, he also asked me if Ed Carey was maintained by the state or the city. He tells me it is too nice for the maintance to be a city project, I agree.
Told him, I had no idea. The truth is that Korry Marra and her song and dance about taking care of her precint is baloney. I hope the voters reject her soundly, I don’t want to sound like many of the bloggers, but after reading today’s article, “I am convince there is an old guard.” I am sure the developer of the Reece is part of the old guard, no question about it.
Blah, blah, blah … old guard this, old guard that. The fact is, Ms. Marra would easily win an election in any of the districts. She has more broad-based support than anyone on the commission. If you would have attended her event Tues night you would have seen for yourself. Too bad she isn’t going to run again.
She knows she can’t win period. That is why she in not going to run again.

All these people who gave her this big going away party just exposed themselves even more. If you support Marra then you support the harming of Harlingen citizens. Case in point, the red light cameras. Even after it was made clear that accidents at the red light camera intersections had indeed rose, she still voted to keep them. A total disregard to the safety of Harlingen citizens. I can go on but you get the picture.
What does this gathering exemplify? I know most of us know the answer to that.
Jerry Deal comments: I do not know that she has officially decided not to seek re-election. I believe that what happens with the Nov. 7 trial will be the big decision.
Oh, and by the way Jus’. Please rebut.
I was kinda’ going on what commissioner or puppet Jus’ was saying. But in looking at her track record (with the conflict of interest charge aside) you would have to be a blind loyalist with no concious or just plain ol’ brainless to vote for her.
It would seem they could shut down this operation, that plays on the sympathy of others.
Jerry Deal comments: The problem is they operate within the law.
Jerry, I had a call from a Cancer Awareness agency, they asked for a minimum of $25.00. At first it all seemee legitimate, until I asked where were they calling from. Arizona was the response, I said, I live in Texas. And the party on the other side of the line said, well it is okay, we are registered in Texas too. I just hung-up, scammer’s if you ask me.
You weren’t going to give them a penny anyhow, were you Dora? LOL.
