….What? – $7 for a whole plate! Jeepers-Creepers, that’s one whale of a bargain. A whole plate for $7? Can’t be. Did you mean $17, Jerry? Last time I went to El Rancho it was $6.45 for breakfast. I could eat in Harlingen for an entire week on – what? – $50. Valley veterans will never get a hospital if they keep low-balling themselves. Most all backing these guys would be willing to pay at the very least $12-$15 a plate for a good cause. Someone is short-changing these guys. Somebody call Treto Garza. Or is this one of those quirky Return-To-Vietnam prices? Hmmmmmmm… – Eliot, http://www.BrownsvilleHerald-Tribune.blogspot.com

Jerry Deal reports: That’s about the most they can get here, but I am certain that all the food was donated. Non-profit groups that sell the barbecue chicken plates can only get about $5.

Jerry, Alcatraz’s way of degrading veterans. He’s done it before. I wouldn’d doubt that he tried to join the military. But he up and quit when some drill sargent stuffed his boot up his rear, just as he deserved.

Jerry: I called the number listed to see where this will be held, and I was told Pendelton Park. This is a good cause, and you might want to update the information so peolpe will know. . . Thanks

Jerry Deal responds: Hey, glad you caught that. I thought I had included Pendleton Park in the article. This goes to show that evryone needs someone to check their copy. Unfortunately, I have no one.

I am not involved in this fund raiser. But since its for a good cause, I support it. Most other organizations sell the fund raising plates at $6.00. Good luck to the Veterans Memorial Project. No one is trying to reap off anybody. By the way El Rancho has breakfast specials. You get what you buy.

    Elliot,

Thank you for your concern. No, they will not make money hand over fist selling the plates at $7.00 each. But here is an idea; instead of paying $7.00 per ticket, why don’t you round it up to $10.00 per plate when paying for yours. That way you will ease your conscience about not paying enough while at the same time set the example for others.

Sorry, but “Eliot” wouldn’t eat that food if they offered it to him for free. Don’t get me wrong, although I’m sure he’s very used to accepting freebies, the food from a fund raising event are probably not his “style”. One extremely disturbed individual, in my humble opinion.
      Jake.
