UTRGV med school holds its first White Coat Ceremony Saturday

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley had another first on Saturday, the Medical School’s first 55 students held the inaugural White Coat Ceremony.
The event was held at the Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg campus.
White Coat ceremonies serve as a rite of passage for medical students. In addition to having medical school officials put on white coats on them, the students also took the Hippocratic Oath, which acknowledges their primary role as caregivers, in front of their loved ones, school leaders and peers.
The University of Texas System Chancellor William McRaven, UTRGV President Guy Bailey and representatives from the Valley legislative delegation were in attendance. Dr. Darrell Kirch, president of the Association of American Medical Colleges, delivered the keynote address.
