Boswell has three opponents in mayor’s race

Mayor Chris Boswell will face three opponents in his bid for another term in Harlingen.
They are former City Commissioner Jerry Prepejchal, retired police lieutenant and private detective Joe Rubio Jr. and consultant Kenneth Benton.
Boswell, who had served three terms as a city commissioner, defeated Benton when both were running for mayor in 2007. He defeated Rubio in the run for mayor in 2010.
Incumbent Prepejchal was defeated for District 4 commissioner, by Chino Sanchez, who also was later defeated. Sanchez now is running for Cameron County commissioner in Place 4.
District 2 Commissioner Tudor Uhlhorn faces opposition from former City Commissioner Frank Puente Jr.

I got Boswell and Uhlhorn in landslides. Both are doing fine jobs. No need to be replaced.

Both are fattening their pockets with taxpayer money. The bank gets a taxpayer bailout on the Ballinger property, and Tudor gets Los Indios cash to prop up a dead boarder crossing. What a sham that’s going on.

Aren’t blogs great? You can just say anonymously make any accusations you want without any truth or proof. And other clueless dipshits will believe it.

Is that all you got Red Barchetta? Calling names instead of disproving. So childish and immature which lends you absolutely no credibility.

“clueless dipshits”, that’s exactly what you and your cohorts are if you think for a nano second that we will believe your propaganda and outright lies.

Speaking of which, still waiting for your response on why you would make such a BOLD ACCUSATION?

“Nobody is proposing or suggesting that section 8 housing go into that structure. The least of which include the mayor, commissioners, 4b board, city manager, etc. You are as misinformed and out of touch as Desi to make such a ridiculous assertion.” Red Barchetta on February 4, 2016 at 4:03 pm

Good stuff would be for Red Barchetta to validate and prove everything it states not name call like a spoiled immature child. Looks like you are another supporter of all that is wrong in Harlingen Justin Credible. You show us you are a no credibility hot air bag.

Auh jus’ where have you been? You and RB are just like two peas in a pod. You both spew the same lies and propaganda.

Why don’t you step up and dispel what your buddy can not so that you can prove you both are not clueless. What am I saying? RB has already proven he is clueless with no credibility because he basically did not know or outright lied about Section 8 coming to downtown.

But then again I am sure you will not either because you fall back on name calling which we all know shows the sign of insecurity and a trait of a liar.

Okay Red, fact, we have a 9 story monster, Boswell great idea, what happen to the Reese? And all the high end condos. And now he wants to spend money on an event center. If the article on the vms is on tract, if the place makes no money, the taxpayers will end up paying the agency that wants to partner with city. How about fixing the streets, boswell is a good story teller and only fools believe his bullshit.

Like others have said about the voters here in Harlingen. A majority don’t vote. It really will not be a landslide if they do win considering their vote ratio compared to the voting capable population that does not vote. Does the changing of voting times have something to do with this? Since Harlingen voters are not able to vote on all elections at once since local election times have been moved. I say yes.

If that is true,it’s crazy crooked and I concur Robert,it is a sham along with being downright shameful. Will there ever be a true justice seeking investigation? Only time will tell.

That’s the delusional clique’ at it’s best IA. Conjuring up imaginative support for their cohorts. I’ve been saying it for years. The votes for these guys in the past elections are extremely low and shows how much support they truly have.

I mean,it is low compared to the rest of the population of this town. And I do believe that the changing of the local elections to not be in concert with state and federal,is indeed a big reason for the voter apathy.

But what if the rest of the voting population snaps out of it and realizes how much they have been screwed over the years? What if there was an explosion of voters finally seeking accountability? A landslide calling for true change.

Are people going to be asking the mayor and city commissioners, past and present, what happened during their tenures? Will they ask people like debrooke, dan fernandez and the rest of the supporters what was going on,then and now?

I sure as Hell hope so.

All the anti-Boswell/anti-establishment voters (not many to begin with) will split their votes between the other three candidates. Boswell wins this one easily.

There is hardly that many supporters of the current incumbents as well. Anybody can easily see the numbers by looking at who got how many votes in past elections. Supporters that think a candidate is electable no matter what based on such a low voter turnout is not intelligent thinking.

        February 21, 2016 at 7:23 pm

        “Boswell wins this one easily.”

Keep in mind that those who support and vote for the incumbents are indeed a meager number of voters as compared to the rest of the capable voting population.

Boasting about past and un-founded future wins based solely on voter apathy is pretty pathetic. Remember,if people wake up to the fact that they are being screwed,do you really think they will be happy?

“Capable” voting population. Not actual voting population. Believe me, I campaigned for Rick Morales in 2013. The general population of Harlingen just doesn’t care, or believes everything is fine and dandy thanks to Valley Morning Star. Meanwhile, the Boswell backers will be out in full force.

Voter apathy reigns supreme but what if they wake up?

Our Boss Hogg, Mayor Chris Boswell made it a point and got his cronies to vote on making the elections in May SO that the real voters don’t vote him out of office. Had the election been in unison with the current elections and the Presidential election, who knows? Those idiots that really believe that he and Tudor are doing good ARE the ones who make money? You want reality? Just go to the Harlingen website and look at the checks that are issued on a monthly basis? You will see the proof that only certain individuals get paid on a monthly basis to keep their pockets filled and assure their vote. But the suck ups like this Red Barchetta won’t because reality will set in and doesn’t have the balls to admit to it.
Read the story about the convention center that is another pet project for Mayor Boswell. It will not work because we have a lame mall, lame Bass Pro (that we still issue checks for) no beach or limited sights along with too many dollar stores. This is a “senior citizen city” according to our glorious Mayor? Yet, senior citizens are complaining and only the bird watchers seem to be the happy ones when it is bird watching season?
We sure as hell ain’t San Antonio, McAllen, Edinburg or Mercedes where their outlet is doing very well.

Boswell asked me if I was going to vote for him the other day at an event.I really wanted to say yes if he would promise to move the city wide elections to the National general election days even if it would cost him the election . I seriously think that he really wants to get all our votes , but not at a costly price . The mayor is blessed that most of the hispanics here in Harlingen are a bunch of sell outs and those who aren’t are too lazy to get off their rumps and go out and vote . Hip , Hip Hooray for da mayor one more time .

@ Juan: If you call being an informed voter a “sellout,” then count me in. I don’t see everything and everyone through the narrow and shallow prism of race, unlike you. Also, take a look around Texas and you will see that most municipal and local school board elections are held in May. This is the norm.

        Informed like this,

““Dan Fernandez on February 4, 2016 at 10:27 am

Jerry, by “well-known resident, Desi Martinez,” if you mean, well-known for disrupting meetings and being wrong, misinformed, and out of line … well, I would definitely agree with that.”

either you don’t know what you are talking about or you are an outright liar. The guy was right and you still have not stated why you would spread such words.

The original voting schedule was fine and did not need to be changed. Anyone could see this.
