TIME FOR A CHANGE
It was just a matter of time before Carlos Anderson tragically victimized more young girls after being set free as a result of a botched Harlingen Police Departdment investigation due to the disastrous leadership under former Chief Danny Castillo and Mayor Boswell.
The heart breaking news out of California that Anderson had sexually assaulted more young girls at yet another karate school only five months after being found not guilty in the Rio Grande Valley is devastating.
Many will remember the failure in Castillo’s leadership by delaying an investigation into the alleged heinous acts by Anderson because Anderson’s wife was an officer under Castillo, with Castillo ultimately handing off the investigation to one of the overworked Texas Rangers after cries of outrage by angry parents of the abused girls.
To add insult to injury, even after a grand jury indicted Anderson for multiple charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Castillo did not immediately seek his arrest causing more outrage from the community for allowing an alleged sex offender to continue to have close contact with young girls.
Tragically, not only will those young girls of Harlingen be scarred for life, but needlessly even more young girls in California will forever endure the lifelong memories of the painful experience of Anderson’s abuse.
Mr. Boswell and Mr. Castillo are no strangers to lawsuits against the city for their negligence and incompetence, which has cost taxpayers dearly. But, if there is ever a time when one’s actions are harmful enough for drastic change, I think all will agree that the failure of leadership in the Anderson debacle rises to that level.
I believe it is in the best interest of the community that both Boswell and Castillo apologize to the victims and their families as well as to the Harlingen and San Jose communities for their failed leadership and that they both immediately resign their positions as public officials.
