Wings looking for host families

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings baseball club is in search of host families who will provide rooms for their players during the summer season.

These players, who come from all over the globe, become extended parts of those families.

This not only gives the players, who move in with local families, a home away from home, it also gives them the opportunity to become a art of the Valley community during the season.

Host families in return get the chance to share in these young men’s dreams of becoming baseball stars and to build friendships that will last for years to come.

The families are asked to provide a room, bed and laundry facilities. They are not required to provide any other support.

In exchange for their generosity, host families receive two box seat season tickets and a lifetime of memories for every player they put up.

There will be 22 players who will start the 2010 season for the Wings on May 27 in Laredo. That means there are 22 opportunities for families to add on to their extended family for the summer.

The first home game will be against the Edinburg Roadrunners on May 29 at 7:05 p.m., although the Wings will also play the Roadrunners in an exhibition game at 11:05 a.m. on May 24.

The WhiteWings will play a 93-game schedule with 44 home games.

Season ticket plans are still available, beginning at $120. Groups of 25 or more can start picking their dates now with both picnic and ticket only options available.

For more information or to sign up for the Host Families Program or for ticket and advertising information call (956) 423-WING (9464) or go to the WhiteWings office at Harlingen Field, 1215 Fair Park Blvd.
